Once again, Qantas has regained its title as the most on-time domestic airline in Australia. This marks the airline’s fifth consecutive year of being ahead of its competition as Australia’s most punctual airline. According to government data for 2024, Qantas and QantasLink achieved a combined on-time departure rate of 76.1%. This put the airline 2.4% above their nearest competitor.

Consistent Improvement

Despite solidifying their top spot once again, Qantas’ punctuality continues to improve internally. The Australian airline’s performance has risen from 74.1% in 2023, which was already an improvement on 69.2% in 2022.

Last year, Qantas outperformed its best competitor in 10 out of 12 months. With reliability at the forefront of its interests, Qantas reduced its cancellation rate to 3.2%, from 3.5% in 2023.

Maybe most impressive, is the airline’s strong performance during the peak December travel season. Despite the hectic period, Qantas achieved a remarkable 73.1% on-time departure rate. This was a whole 4.9% higher than November and 3.6% more than in December of the previous year.

Commitment to Growth

Markus Svensson, CEO of Qantas Domestic has since praised the airline’s progress. Nevertheless, he acknowledged that there is always room for punctuality improvement.

“We’ve seen positive improvements from our teams over the past year, but we’re aiming for even better results.”

Svensson has committed the airline to investments to engineering, and more efficient boarding in order to enhance Qantas’ punctuality and customer satisfaction even further.

Moving Forward

Qantas has once again reinforced its position as Australia’s most reliable domestic choice for travellers. This is a testament to the airline’s consistent track record and commitment to operational excellence.

So, if you are looking to travel domestically within Australia, rest assured Qantas continues to set the benchmark for customer service and punctuality.
