The Western Australian government is opening a Qantas Group Emergency Procedure Training Centre and a new Jetstar crew base in Perth. These are expected to boost the aviation hub in Perth and maximise local resources.

New Training Centre and Crew Base
The new training centre is located in Welshpool, a southeast suburb of Perth. This facility is designed to provide training for emergency procedures. It contains six classrooms, aircraft door simulators, evacuation slide and raft equipment, and dedicated fire safety, medical and security training areas. The training centre also contains a virtual reality (VR) training space to simulate realistic emergency scenarios and appropriate cabin crew responses.
The new Jetstar crew base is designed to generate long-term employment for locals, reducing interstate travel for pilots and cabin crew. This initiative, along with the training centre, aims to improve the tourism sector and strengthen the aviation industry. More than 1,200 Perth-based Qantas Group pilots and cabin crew are expected to train at the facility each year.

Part of a Larger Initiative
Perth Airport (PER) is the biggest airport in Western Australia. It is the fourth-largest domestic and international airport in Australia which handled 17.48 million passengers in FY25. It also created 28,700 full-time equivalent (FTE) jobs in Western Australia.
This initiative is part of a larger redevelopment plan to increase access and encourage the growth of tourism. Trade and Investment Minister Roger Cook said:
“Perth is making its mark as an important hub for aviation, tourism and trade, and partnerships like this help position Western Australia as a key strategic gateway.”
