New Boeing 777s order for Emirates SkyCargo

On 16th July 2024, Emirates SkyCargo announced new orders for the Boeing 777 freighter aircrafts. One of the world’s largest airline’s cargo arm Emirates SkyCargo which is known for its exceptional fleet and performance have ordered new aircrafts to add to their fleet. The mega order which is estimated to be worth around $1 billion aims to get the cargo giant 5 Boeing 777 freighter aircrafts.

Emirates SkyCargo

Originally starting operations over 35 years ago, the freight carrier has come a long way from what it is to this day. At the main hub the Maktoum International Airport, the cargo company has access to more than 75 countries. In modern day, the company is widely recognised due to its parent company Emirates. It is known to be the fourth largest cargo airline in the world in terms of total freight tonne kilometers flown. With callsign EMIRATES, IATA; EK, the company remains. a pioneer in freight transportation in the world. According to annual reports of the 2023-24 financial year, the company carried 2.2 million tonnes of cargo which was more than 15% as compared to previous year. When talking about revenue, the company generated $3.7 billion. Furthermore, reports suggest the company has had a even better start to the 2024-25 year and thus the investing into adding more Boeing aircrafts to the fleet.

 

Boeing and Emirates SkyCargo partnership

The partnership began in May 2003, when the company were operating two Boeing aircrafts. One being the Boeing 747-400 and the other being the Boeing 747-200. The total caculated for almost 330 tonne capacity. Since then the company has seen huge success and has placed orders regularly. The most recent ones being 5 Boeing 777s, which are set to be delivered in the coming year 2025-2026. This makes the fleet of aircrafts more than 10.

Boeing has revolutionised how freighter companies operate. The new 777s are a direction into the right direction. The 777 freighter aircraft can fly 4,970 nautical miles while also being able to carry more cargo. The aircraft is the longest range twin engine freighter aircraft which is beneficial for the company as it opens markets to cater. 27 main pallets in the aircraft with a height of 10ft gives a more diverse range of cargo options.
