Morocco welcomed 19.8 million tourists in 2025, becoming Africa’s leading tourism destination, according to the country’s Ministry of Tourism. The figure is the highest ever recorded for the country.

Following these record-breaking arrivals, Morocco also achieved an all-time high in tourism revenues bringing in 138 billion dirhams in 2025 according to the Africa News Agency. This performance signifies a 14% increase in arrivals compared to 2024 and marks a significant boost for the nation’s economy.
The strong performance highlights not only rising visitor numbers but also increased spending, signalling a shift toward higher-value tourism.
This surge in visitor numbers reflects Morocco’s growing global appeal, driven by improved air connectivity, diversified travel experiences, and continued investment in tourism infrastructure. The country has also strengthened its reputation as a year-round destination, offering everything from vibrant imperial cities to Atlantic coastlines and Sahara desert experiences.
How Airlines Are Responding to Morocco’s Tourism Surge
Airlines have moved quickly to capitalise on Morocco’s tourism boom, rolling out new routes and expanding capacity ahead of continued growth into 2026 and the build-up to the FIFA World Cup 2030.
National carrier Royal Air Maroc has significantly strengthened its network, adding more European connections while accelerating long-term expansion plans.
Low-cost carriers are playing a major role in widening access. Ryanair has expanded its presence across Morocco with additional European routes and announced a new base in Rabat set to launch in 2026, featuring more than 20 new international and domestic connections. Similarly, easyJet has introduced new routes linking cities such as Geneva and Hamburg to key destinations like Marrakech and Tangier.
Meanwhile, transatlantic connectivity is also improving. Delta Air Lines has entered the market with a direct route from Atlanta to Marrakech, launched in early 2026, further opening Morocco to North American travellers.
Airlines are not only responding to current demand, but actively planning for sustained growth, signalling that the country’s travel boom is set to continue well beyond 2026.
