Menzies Aviation, a global leader in aviation logistics and ground handling services, is rapidly achieving its sustainability goals. This is in line with their 2024 Annual Review and Sustainability Report. The company are making notable progress in environmental governance, which is underpinned by their bold investments and transparency.

Powering Ahead in Sustainability
For the fifth consecutive year, Menzies have notably reduced the carbon intensity of its operations, reducing CO2 emissions relative to both revenue and workforce size. CO2 emissions per $1,000 of revenue dropped from 0.06 tCO2e in 2022 to 0.04 tCO2e in 2024, while emissions per full-time employee were reduced by 19% to 2.36 tc02e.
Additionally, Menzies have become the first aviation logistics provider to have its net-zero targets validated by the Science Based Targets Initiative.

Menzies Aviation: Aiming Towards Fully Electric Ground Handling
Menzies have also succeeded in electrifying its global fleet, in Ground Support Equipment (GSE). This includes electric baggage tractors, belt loaders and towbarless tugs. Currently, 24% of Menzies motorised GSE is electric. This is a 2% increase from 2024, keeping Menzies on track to hit its 25% target by 2026. In Europe, Menzies are making staggering progress, with 17 stations operating with over 50% electric GSE.
Additionally, Menzies have outlined further targets to reach zero waste to landfill in its cargo operations, by 2026. This highlights Menzies commitment to environmental sustainability.

Menzies: Investing Sustainably in Airports
At Stockholm and Gothenburg Airport, Menzies deployed new electric belt loaders and baggage tractors. Furthermore, South African airports in Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Durban were given 15 belt loaders and 12 baggage tractors, to reduce emissions in these high-traffic regions.
At Budapest Airport, Wizz Air travellers were serviced by full electric turnarounds. This included solar-powered passenger steps and battery-powered loaders and tractors. This has also been seen in Gothenburg, Amsterdam and Oslo Airports.
John Geddes, Chief Governance & Sustainability Officer, said:
Environmental, social, and governance factors are now key drivers of business resilience and long-term success… I’m proud of our progress with the All In sustainability goals.
While Swissport (its industry rival) and others have launched electric GSE in some locations, they have not been very transparent about its figures. In contrast, Menzies with clear numbers, such as the 278% rise in renewable energy use over the past year, show how far ahead they are in the sustainable aviation race.
