The Lufthansa Group has achieved its goal of increasing female representation in management positions, reinforcing its commitment to female leadership and diversity in aviation. The milestone aligns with the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) “25 by 2025” goal, aimed at promoting diversity, equity and inclusion in the aviation industry.

Launched six years ago, the initiative has gained the commitment of more than 200 aviation companies worldwide. The company’s success marks a significant step toward greater gender balance in roles and reinforces the company’s commitment to Lufthansa Group’s female leadership representation in management field.

Leadership Perspectives on Progress in Female Representation

“We are delighted to have increased the proportion of women in management positions across the Group to over 25%”

said Michael Niggemann, member of the Executive Board of Deutsche Lufthansa AG, responsible for Human Resources & Legal Affairs.

“Admittedly, this is still too little—the steps are sometimes small and somewhat laborious, but that is precisely why they are particularly important and necessary. The goal is and remains sustainable development without gender discrimination.”

Current Female Representation in Lufthansa Group

The proportion of female managers in the three management levels directly below the Executive Board is currently 25.3%. To further support this trend even more intensely, a global programme to encourage and support women in executive positions has been initiated by the Lufthansa Group. Talent development initiatives and guidelines have been incorporated within the programme so that female candidates become more visible in the process of recruiting. These efforts align with the companies’ broader strategy to strengthen Lufthansa Group female leadership at all levels.

Niggemann added:

“We are particularly proud of the impressive growth in the field of technology

We will now continue to consistently pursue the path we have taken to fully leverage the potential of talented junior staff.”

Lufthansa Group’s dedication to gender equality is an indication of a broader industry push to render the aviation sector more inclusive to guarantee long-term development and career advancement for women.

Lufthansa Group is a global operating airline group with a total of more than 300 associated companies and subsidiaries. The company portfolio includes network airlines, point-to-point airlines and service companies in the field of aviation.
