The Lufthansa Group and Amadeus have entered into a partnership to introduce a new booking system designed to simplify how passengers book and manage their flights. This collaboration is centred around an “Order ID”, a single identification number that will eventually replace traditional booking and ticket numbers.

Single Order ID to Replace Traditional Bookings

Primarily, the new system is intended to consolidate all elements of a passenger’s journey. Everything from flights and seat reservations to baggage and ancillary services like upgrades or lounge access will be unified into one record.

The Lufthansa Group shared that the initiative will improve transparency by giving travellers a clearer overview of their journey while speeding up rebooking flights during disruptions. The new structure is intended to reduce complexity for both customers and the airline. Tamur Goudarzi Pour, executive vice president strategy at the Lufthansa Group commented:

“We are excited to partner with Amadeus to advance the development and implementation of an innovative order technology and to further improve the travel experience for our customers.”

Aspiring for Improved Customer Experience

The standardised order system is expected to enable customers to rebook flights, add services or make last-minute changes, particularly during irregular operations. Moreover, passengers will be able to receive alternative travel options and important trip updates more quickly, in some cases within a single click.

The Order ID will be introduced gradually across several airlines within the Lufthansa Group. It will complement existing digital software, including Travel ID, which will continue to store personal customer profiles as the new booking technology is rolled out.
