Canada’s London International Airport opens an ice rink for the first time in Canada making it the first of its kind in the country. It serves as a fun place for both airport staff and public looking for an activity with a great view of departing and arriving aircraft.
The Free outdoor Ice rink brings success to London International Airport
This week, London International Airport (YXU) presented Canada’s first ever airport ice rink, a community initiative formed by the airport team to offer an entertaining and enjoyable space. The rink area, located close to the airport’s main terminal, includes barriers, evening lighting, and also a cosy warming shelter. The area is open daily from 7 AM to 9 PM, providing an entertainment place for skaters and hockey players, in terms of safety policies, it is recommended users to participate in the activities at their own risk, and the children under five are advised to wearing CSA-approved helmets.
“The big motivation behind this initiative is the limited availability of quality skating facilities in London – Canada, particularly those providing casual hockey or ‘shinny’ play,” explained Scott McFadzean, President/CEO of London International Airport.

All year activities at London International Airport
Beyond the winter ice rink, London International Airport is committed to making the Airport a year round hub for fun and recreation of the community. With many recreational facilities for Summer season like pickleball (known as a combination of ping-pong, tennis and badminton), beach volleyball and a fantastic park facility for aviation enthusiasts-YXU Air Park, a public park for spotting of aircraft landing and taking off, not only with amazing views but also informational displays about London International Airport’s aviation history, aiming to educate about rich airport’s history and the aircraft’s. In a statement, an airport spokesperson said:
“We are always looking to find creative ways to connect with and support our local community at the airport. Besides delivering direct flights to sunny destinations this winter and global connections from London International Airport, we also aim to give you more reasons to visit us.”
