jetBlue improves carbon footprint with SkyBreathe platform

jetBlue will be the first commercial airline in the U.S to integrate the globally used SkyBreathe, and MyFuelCoach to reduce carbon emissions and to implement flying fuel efficiently within their aircraft fleet.

The platform will help the flight crew to optimise fuel consumption during flights, and improve the current fuel efficiency behaviours across the airline.

“With access to SkyBreathe MyFuelCoach on the flight deck, our pilots have access to real-time performance insights that help them refine their procedures and contribute to our JetForward strategy, strengthening our financial foundation through cost savings while also meaningfully addressing our emissions.” says system chief at jetBlue, Chris Lum.

Optimising the SkyBreathe platform for better fuel savings

jetBlue will also be implementing the platform’s 360 dashboard to identify operational trends across flight crews and creating a sustainable way to fly.

Identifying trends beyond flight routines such as taxi schedules and airport common operational and consumer trends, jetBlue highlight their ability to further maximise sustainable practices to approach reducing carbon emissions and saving fuel.

“Over the course of more than 900 daily flights, small gains in efficiency can translate into major savings,” said Chris Lum, system chief pilot at jetBlue

Alongside their introduction to SkyBreathe and MyFuelCoach, jetBlue have consistently taken steps to improve fuel consumption and reducing carbon emissions.

The airline introduced single-engine taxxing which estimates savings of 15,000 gallons of fuel per month, and with the help of the new platforms, jetBlue estimates to find an additional 73,000 gallons of fuel which will save over 700 tonnes of CO2e annually.
