A couple have been banned from flying with Jet2 for life following an incident on a flight to Gran Canaria. According to Birmingham Live, the U.K. budget airline and holiday operator also kicked the couple out of their hotel for their inappropriate behaviour, and barred them from their return flight.

A shocking mid-air incident

The couple, aged in their 50s, were on a four-hour flight from East Midlands Airport bound for Gran Canaria, Spain, when the incident occurred. Shortly after takeoff, they were reported to cabin crew by fellow passengers for engaging in inappropriate behaviour with one another.

51-year-old Darren Street, who was on the flight with his wife, Lisa, 47, described witnessing the shocking display of behaviour to The Sun, saying:

“It was incredibly blatant, there was a lot of vigorous movement going on in his jogging bottoms. My wife and I were shocked and disgusted. We told a crew member, and they came over to speak to the couple. But, when confronted, the couple claimed they were praying because it was their first time on a plane.”

However, airline staff were not convinced by the couple’s story. According to Wales Online, they initially planned to turn the flight around before it was decided that the couple would instead be barred from their return flight with Jet2 and kicked out of their hotel.

The airline speaks out

Jet2 has now spoken out to confirm that the two passengers have been issued a lifetime ban for their behaviour on the flight. In a statement, which was shared by Birmingham Live, the airline said:

“These customers have been banned for life. As a family-friendly airline and holiday company, we take a zero-tolerance approach to appalling behaviour such as this.”

This is not the first time Jet2 has handed passengers a lifetime ban following instances of unacceptable behaviour. In February, two Jet2 passengers were banned for life after a violent brawl erupted between two passengers on a flight from Antalya to Manchester.
