The latest January 2026 on-time performance (OTP) data reveals the world’s most punctual airlines, highlighting strong performances across Asia-Pacific and Latin America. As operational reliability remains a key differentiator in a competitive market, the new rankings provide insight into which carriers are delivering the most consistent results at the start of 2026.

Top 10 Major Airlines

China Southern Airlines topped the global major airline category with an 89.4% OTP across 69,392 flights and a 0.63% cancellation rate, reinforcing Asia’s strong operational standing. Fellow Chinese carrier Hainan Airlines ranked second at 87.92%, while Australia’s Qantas placed third at 83.32%, making it the highest-performing airline in the Southwest Pacific.

Latin America also delivered solid results, with Brazil’s Azul Airlines ranking fourth at 82.61% and LATAM Airlines Group sixth at 80.7%. In North America, Southwest Airlines emerged as the best-performing major carrier, ranking seventh globally with a 79.75% OTP. Alaska Airlines followed closely at 79.31%.

Europe’s highest-ranking major airline was British Airways placing 11th,  with 77.95%, and 1.63% of cancelled flights. Among European carriers, Ryanair followed very closely, placing 13th, with 77.72% OTP and a low 0.11% cancellation rate.

Large Airlines: Copa and Aeromexico

Among large airlines, Panama-based Copa Airlines led globally with a 91.35% OTP and just a 0.29% cancellation rate. Aeromexico secured second place at 87.31% across 15,985 flights. Aeromexico’s strong operational performance coincides with revenue growth. During its 4Q2025 earnings call on Feb. 17, 2026, Chief Commercial Officer Aaron Murray said premium unit revenue grew six points faster than the main cabin year over year, with premium accounting for about 42% of total revenue.

Elsewhere, Asia continued to dominate the large airline category, with Juneyao Airlines, Philippine Airlines, and Shandong Airlines all posting OTP figures above 86%. The January 2026 data underscores Asia-Pacific’s operational strength and showed reliability gains in the Americas and parts of Europe.
