IndiGo’s A321XLR inaugural flight

By the end of 2025, IndiGo will have its Airbus A321XLR and will begin its six weekly direct flights to Athens in early January 2026, subject to regulatory approval. According to the airline, this achievement will make IndiGo the only carrier in India to offer direct flights between India and Greece.

The airlines intend to connect Athens to both Delhi and Mumbai, operating on three frequencies per week on both routes. The airline stated that these flights to Athens offer more convenient access to the exotic parts of the Greek islands, this includes Santorini, Mykonos, and Crete. The flight to Athens also complements the airline’s determination in expanding its network in Europe and the rest of the world.

The A321XLR is an aircraft designed for longer routes, with a range of up to 8,700 km. The narrow-body aircraft enables access to non-stop flights from India to Southern Europe with more efficiency compared to previous narrow-body aircraft. IndiGo intends to introduce its loyalty programme, IndiGoStretch, to the aircraft and stated that its A321XLR will feature Economy Class, offering comfort, more legroom, elevated cabins, and inflight entertainment.
