IndiGo, India’s largest airline, and AEGEAN, Greece’s largest airline, have mutually entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a codeshare partnership in order to enhance connectivity and provide passengers with greater choice across their shared networks in both Europe and South Asia.

Athens and South Asia, Now Better Connected

IndiGo has already announced plans to operate direct flights to Athens, Greece beginning in early January of 2026, while AEGEAN has announced it will introduce direct flights to India by March of 2026. IndiGo will start by introducing six weekly flights to Athens, whereas AEGEAN will launch five weekly flights to Delhi, India and, later, another three weekly services to Mumbai.

Pieter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo, said:

“We are pleased to announce our partnership with AEGEAN, marking a significant step forward in our mission to give wings to India and enhance global connectivity. This collaboration enables our customers to conveniently book seamless itineraries on an expanded, integrated network across both airlines, including beautiful islands in Greece and other regional European destinations. As two ancient civilisations, India and Greece, reconnect through aviation; we are excited to join hands with AEGEAN to meet the growing demand for international air travel and foster stronger business ties between the two nations.”

Codesharing: The Best of Both Worlds

Through the partnership between the two airlines, customers in Greece and India will both benefit. AEGEAN customers will gain wider access to Indian and South Asian destinations once the airline’s “A3” flight code is added to a large number of destinations on the IndiGo network. At the same time, IndiGo will be adding its “6E” flight code to AEGEAN’s domestic and European services departing from AEGEAN’s main hub at Athens International Airport Eleftherios Venizelos (ATH).

Chairman of AEGEAN, Eftichios Vassilakis, shared the IndiGo CEO’s optimism:

“We are delighted to establish a strategic partnership with IndiGo, one of the fastest-growing airlines in the world. This step expands AEGEAN’s footprint beyond Europe into one of the world’s most dynamic markets, strengthening the bridge between Greece and India. By leveraging IndiGo’s broad network within India and South Asia alongside AEGEAN’s extensive reach in Greece and Europe, we offer to our passengers more choices and convenience, along with a seamless travel experience. We look forward to joining forces with IndiGo and create new opportunities for cultural, business and tourism exchanges.”

With IndiGo being India’s largest airline and having received awards including SkyTrax’s ‘Best Airline in India and South Asia’, and AEGEAN similarly receiving the ‘Best Airline in Europe’ award and maintaining membership of STAR ALLIANCE, customers of both airlines are sure to reap the benefits of each airline’s high standards and dedication to customer satisfaction following the codeshare partnership.
