About the New Aircrafts

Both aircrafts were delivered in individual parts and reassembled over the past few months in the new conference and visitor centre. This completion is in time for the opening of their new home, which coincides with the 100th anniversary of the founding of the first Deutsche Luft Hansa.

In 1932, the first Junkers Ju 52 was added to the Lufthansa fleet, quickly accounting for around 50% of the Lufthansa fleet at the time due to its economy and reliability. Characterised by its versatility and ability to land on unpaved runways, this aircraft was first developed in the 1930s and set new standards in passenger and cargo transport.

It was in 1957 that the Lockheed Super Star joined the Lufthansa fleet, the first aircraft to feature the Senator class. Primarily, it was used for flights to New York, taking off from Hamburg and flying for up to 17 hours. With a wingspan of 45.18 meters, a height of 7.12 meters, and 35.42 meters long, the design of its four piston engines moved away from the design of the classic propeller aircraft.

More on Lufthansa Group Hangar One

In 2024, construction of a new conference and visitor centre began at Frankfurt Airport. Not only was this intended to be a place for employees and business partners to collaborate, but also to open for customers and aviation enthusiasts.

With the completion of the Junkers Ju 52 and the Lockheed Super Star, these aircrafts will be put on permanent display. Alongside these main historical attractions, an open gallery for visitors to explore exhibits on Lufthansa’s corporate history will also be available.

Behind a glass facade, visitors can admire these aircrafts, accompanied by a picture gallery from their delivery to the final acceptance. Catering services are also on offer for visitors in the coffee lounge, and the visitor centre will be open for future external events.
