Chinese Hainan Airlines has recently started a collaboration with the augmented reality glasses brand Rokid, together they present the first in-the-world AR in-flight experience. Passengers on flight to Xi’an were the pioneers in experiencing the amazing AR technology.
Hainan Airlines passengers experiment the AR equipment in-flight for the first time
Last week, on February 7th, passengers flying from Shenzhen to Xi’an on Hainan Airlines were introduced to Rokid entertainment kits. Hainan Airlines offered the passengers the opportunity to test the AR glasses and equipment on the flight; passengers were amazed by the unique surprise provided by Hainan Airlines.
The available AR kits are composed with Rokid Max smart glasses and a Rokid Station with a huge number of movies uploaded in 3D and doesn’t rely on an internet connection. The Rokid station-a portable Android TV device is connected to a variety of services: games, downloadable movies, videos, and apps. In terms of equipment design, Rokid Max smart glasses weigh only 75 grams and are specially designed for comfort and to occupy you on long flights. The excellent 1080P resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, an optimal battery of up to 5 hours, and dual directional speakers provide high-quality entertainment for technology enthusiasts.
According to Rokid, AR glasses will be available for a month on 20 Hainan Airlines flights from 7th February until March 31, 2024. The provided entertainment kits are uploaded with 3D offline movies and include a fantastic collection of the most recent Chinese New Year movies for passengers to be entertained by.
Rokid plans and future expansion for additional Airlines
Rokid, plans to develop AR technology in a more impactful way than before. The next Rokid projects aim to include interactive games and virtual tours on flights to enable new AR experiences for passengers, and several airline companies have already shown interest in incorporating VR experiences in flights. According to CNBC, Rokid is planning similar partnerships and is in discussions with airlines and internationally recognised operators.
In an interview with CNBC, CEO and founder of Rokid Misa Zhu stated, “Airlines are excited because they can offer more different services, and it’s very competitive.”
