A new air service linking Guernsey (GCI) with London Heathrow (LHR) has officially been launched in April 2026. The route, operated by British Airways, is designed specifically for Guernsey passengers, improving access to one of Europe’s busiest global hubs.

New Route Boosts Guernsey Connectivity

The first flight arrived in Guernsey at 12:55 pm (UTC +1), before returning to Heathrow shortly after, marking the start of a daily, year-round service. The new service is expected to strengthen Guernsey’s links with the UK and beyond, particularly for business and leisure travellers. British Airways is offering one daily rotation, timed to connect with onward international flights from Heathrow, including routes to Europe and North America.

Fares for the new route start from around £49 one way, making it more competitive than earlier services. Previously, ticket prices for similar routes were higher, with some fares starting from around £65 to £91 when the service was first announced.

Local officials and industry representatives have welcomed the launch. Guernsey’s Economic Development Committee has described improved air links as essential for the island’s economy, while hospitality leaders have called the return of Heathrow flights a “hugely positive step” for tourism and business growth.

Subsidies, Demand and Long-Term Viability

The route is supported by a multi-year agreement involving financial incentives from local authorities, reflecting the importance of maintaining reliable air connections for Guernsey. The last Heathrow link ended in 2019 after struggling to remain financially sustainable.

While the new service is expected to attract both residents and visitors, some concerns remain about long-term demand and competition with other London routes, such as Gatwick and London City.
