Japan’s largest airline and proud member of the Star Alliance, All Nippon Airways (ANA), offers travellers the perfect getaway to experience the breathtaking beauty of Japan in autumn. As the bustling high season comes to an end, November becomes an ideal time to explore Japan’s natural beauty and seasonal culinary delights. Besides fewer crowds and the vibrant autumnal palette, enjoy the tranquillity and affordability that this season offers—Japan starts with ANA.

Seasonal Colours and Cuisine

Autumn in Japan is a vision of vivid colour, with Japanese maple (momiji) and ginkgo trees turning shades of red, orange and gold. For the most brilliant autumn hues, visit the Japanese Alps, especially Kamikochi in Nagano Prefecture, where the multicoloured flora reflect in the clear waters of the Azusa river. Another spot is Lake Kawaguchi near Mount Fuji, where the surrounding Momiji trees and their fiery crimson foliage bring a striking contrast against Mount Fuji’s peak.

As the nights grow cooler, the season also brings hearty dishes that warm the heart and soul. Popular hot pots like shabu shabu and sukiyaki offer a savoury mix of meat and vegetables. Kyoto is a prime destination renowned for its traditional nabe (hot pot) restaurants, where you can delight in local specialties like yudofu (tofu hot pot). Another autumnal staple in Japan is their yakiimo sweet potato, which you can find served roasted from street truck vendors or in yakiimo-flavoured drinks. Be sure to try matsutake mushrooms, known for being one of Japan’s most prized seasonal delicacies. These aromatic mushrooms are also in peak season during this time, whether grilled or served in the fragrant dobin mushi soup, their rich earthy flavour perfectly complements the essence of autumn.

Connected Above the Clouds

ANA has now upgraded your travel experience with an ever-expanding selection of inflight entertainment, introducing a wider range of movies to enjoy—from new releases to beloved classics. As of August 20th, Star Alliance members can also take advantage of complimentary Wi-Fi, making it easier to stay connected, work or browse the web while in the air. So whether you’re catching up on emails or unwinding with your favourite film, sit back, relax, and let ANA connect you to the wonders of Japan!
