Delta adds new flight route to Australian holiday destination

This last week Delta debuted a new flight route between the United States and Australia. Delta customers now have access to the sunny state of Queensland, as the route goes in and out of Brisbane.

An exciting new route!

On the fourth of December, Delta’s first flight to Brisbane (BNE) took off from Los Angeles (LAX). Brisbane is the second Australian city to be added to Delta’s flight routes. They have had flights in and out of Sydney since 2008. Currently, they are the only American airline flying between BNE and LAX. Qantas is the only other airline to offer this route as Virgin Australia discontinued this flight in 2020 and United operated this route for just three months between 2023 and 2024.

The flight will run during the Northern Hemisphere’s winter. The last flight for the season will be leaving BNE on 28th March 2025. The flight will depart from LAX on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. It will depart from BNE on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. The flight route is 11,525 kilometres. This will roughly take about 13 hours and 25 minutes.

Fly like the Olympians

The Airbus A350-900, also known as the LA28 Olympic Livery, is the aircraft that Delta has deployed for these long-haul flights. This aircraft is what Delta used to fly the Olympic US team and flag home after the closing ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics. This seems to be a conscious choice as Los Angeles is hosting the next summer Olympics and Brisbane will host after them.

Overall, the aircraft has 306 seats. 32 of these are their Delta One suites, 48 are premium economy, 36 are comfort plus and the last 190 are standard economy seats.

A route full of potential!

Delta was influenced to create this route by Queensland’s Attracting Aviation which offered financial incentives. However, this route has potential for Delta as they establish themselves as the American airline to fly into Brisbane with. There is also great potential for this route in the future with the next two summer Olympics hosted by both cities.

Overall, this is an exciting flight debut which opens up many possibilities for American and Australian flyers alike and will make travelling the long distance between the two countries much easier. If you are interested in buying flight tickets with Delta, check out their website.
