Passengers can travel on Delta Airlines with a new and more accessible flight map designed specifically for travellers with low-vision disabilities. Available on over 650 aircraft, the map contains features that can help visually impaired passengers navigate and enjoy their flight journey more independently. The feature is available on Delta’s 165,000 seatback screens—the most in the airline industry.

Delta Accessible Map Enhances In-Flight Experience for Travellers with Low-Vision

The accessible flight map, designed with provider FlightPath3D, incorporates features to improve usability for visually impaired travellers while maintaining the features Delta customers expect. Main improvements include high-contrast visuals, large text, and adjustable zoom and pan controls to make it easier for passengers to follow their journey. The new design also includes textures and patterns to help colourblind users see map elements.

Delta’s efforts reflect the airline’s commitment to accessibility and inclusive travel experiences.

Ekrem Dimbiloglu, Delta’s managing director of customer experience for Delta Studio and Wi-Fi said:

“Delta connects people to the world, and we want every traveller to feel seen and valued. This technology is part of our promise to make every journey enjoyable and inclusive.’’

Upcoming updates to further Improve Accessibility

Delta’s accessible map is part of a broader accessibility strategy which includes 100% closed-captioning on movies and TV series and a recent 40% increase in audio-described content. The airline aims to exceed industry standards, making air travel as barrier-free as possible. To achieve this, Delta has collaborated with its Advisory Board on Disability which provided critical feedback to refine the map’s design and functionality.

Thomas Panek, chair of Delta’s Advisory Board on Disability commented:

“Delta’s accessible map shows their dedication to improving the travel experience for low-vision users.”

The accessible map is now available on most of Delta’s domestic and international flights, with full integration expected in the coming months. The map also provides streamlined information with simplified labels for essential details like major cities and borders, along with adjustable zoom and pan controls for customised views. An upcoming update will add voice narration so people can hear details about flight progress, arrival times, and nearby landmarks.
