Brussels Airlines, the national airline of Belgium, has just added Kilimanjaro in Tanzania to its list of destinations, increasing the number of destinations in sub-Saharan Africa within the Brussels Airlines network to 18. It is the fifth destination in East Africa, following Entebbe (Uganda), Kigali (Rwanda), Bujumbura (Burundi) and Nairobi (Kenya).

Kilimanjaro, the Gateway to East Africa

Kilimanjaro will serve as the perfect gateway destination for visitors to East Africa’s many wonders and UNESCO World Heritage sites. It not only provides easy access to Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain peak, but also to the Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, both UNESCO World Heritage sites situated in Tanzania.

Dorothea von Boxberg, CEO of Brussels Airlines, expressed her pride at the new addition to the airline’s network in sub-Saharan Africa:

“Sub-Saharan Africa is our second home, and we’re happy to add an attractive destination to our network on this beautiful continent. Tanzania is a top destination for safaris, and we’re proud to contribute to the local economy by connecting Kilimanjaro to Brussels and beyond.”

The first Brussels Airlines flight to Kilimanjaro will depart on 3 June 2026. The flights will operate using the Airbus A330-300, which has a capacity of 288 seats across Business Class, Premium Economy Class and Economy Class. Tickets are now bookable on the Brussels Airlines website, with return fares starting from 519 EUR (£446 approx.)

The flights will initally operate twice per week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, according to the following schedule (all times local):

  • SN487: Brussels (10:20) — Kilimanjaro (20:35)
  • SN487: Kilimanjaro (21:35) — Nairobi (22:25)
  • SN487: Nairobi (23:40) — Brussels (07:40+1)

Further Updates to Brussels Airlines’ Network

In addition to the new route to Kilimanjaro, the Brussels Airlines network is also planned to recieve multiple other changes for Summer 2026. On the long-haul network, the number of flights to Freetown, Sierra Leone, will increase from five to six per week, with an additional service on Thursdays.

Regarding changes to short- and medium-haul flights, Brussels Airlines is offering 17 additional flights to Spain and Portugal per week, with more services reaching Barcelona, Malaga, Alicante and Porto. Other destinations will also gain more frequent flights, with Copenhagen recieving an additional five flights per week, Prague recieving an extra four flights and Budapest seeing an increase of two more flights each week.
