Avianca, one of the largest airlines in Latin America, inaugurated its new route from Chicago O’Hare International Airport to Bogotá, Colombia, on 27 October 2024. This route aims to expand the airline into the United States market. In addition, it is a strategic move that will strengthen the connection between North and South America.

New Route Details

The new route from Chicago to Bogotá will be operated on an Airbus A320. It holds 180 passenger seats and can transport up to 2500 travellers per week. There will be seven weekly flights. The flights will depart from Bogotá at 7 AM, and arrive in Chicago at 1:15 PM. The return flight is at 2:35 PM. The convenient timing allows customers to comfortably plan connections between flights. Passengers will be provided with uninterrupted travel to destinations throughout South and Central America from Bogotá, the airline’s main hub. From there, they can change over to 150 possible routes across the Americas and Europe, allowing Avianca to expand its presence in North America. Chicago’s business market and large Latin American community will strengthen the airline’s position.

Strategic Value of the New Route

The new route holds strategic importance for Avianca. Avianca Airlines aims to achieve more accessible aviation options between key international hubs. Chicago Airport has an advantage as it allows access to one of the largest Latin American populations in the US. For this reason, after becoming the gateway to new routes and an important destination, it will help develop and expand the tourism and travel business sectors. Furthermore, Chicago O’Hare has connections inside the United States and abroad. This is how the Avianca system will improve its transcontinental travel through flights to Latin America. The new route also makes the airline more competitive. Following current trends, the increase in travel between South and North America is beneficial for Avianca’s development. In addition, it helps to recover international travel post-pandemic COVID-19.

Benefits for Passengers

Seamless connections to Latin America will improve the travel experience for tourists and business travellers alike. For example, new offers for Avianca business class passengers include unique amenities and spacious seats. All the features are inspired by Colombian culture and designed for the complete convenience of business travellers. For instance, the passengers will enjoy skin care products from Loto del Sur and handcrafted suitcases from Mola Sasa which combine ecological values and luxury charm. In addition, passengers who frequently fly with Avianca Airlines will receive a reward from the LifeMiles program. Thanks to the advantageous offer, customers can accumulate miles on new routes from Chicago. For travellers who like to visit less well-known places, this route will offer access to unique destinations for vacations. Special offers and promotional rates will increase the accessibility of flights.

Looking Ahead

The new Avianca route is helping to boost demand for international travel options. Chicago Airport became the new gateway to the Midwest and established a link between the North and South American regions, expanding the airline’s objective.
