The States of Alderney has launched a procurement process to identify organisations interested in providing aviation fuel services at Alderney Airport (ACI) as the island looks to enhance operational flexibility and support a wider range of aircraft operations.

Alderney Airport Seeks Fuel Suppliers for Expansion

According to the States of Alderney, a request for proposals (RFP) has been issued for the supply of Jet A-1 fuel and aviation gasoline (Avgas), neither of which is currently available at the airport. The government said the initiative forms part of broader efforts to improve services for aircraft operators and strengthen ACI’s capabilities.

The RFP is available through the Guernsey Procurement Portal, with interested organisations invited to review the documentation and submit proposals before the application deadline of noon BST on July 7, according to the BBC.

Procurement Process Aims to Restore Aviation Fuel Availability

The government said the objective is to support a range of aviation activities, including scheduled commercial air services, emergency operations, rotary-wing flights and the wider general aviation sector.

Jeannie Cameron, chair of the Policy & Finance Committee said, in a statement released by the States of Alderney, that restoring fuel provision at Alderney Airport (ACI) would help improve the island’s air connectivity while expanding services available to aviation users:

“Restoring fuel provision at Alderney Airport is an important step in supporting the island’s air connectivity and strengthening the services available to both commercial and private aviation users, as well as enhancing economic development.”

She added that the procurement process has been designed to encourage suppliers to propose practical and innovative solutions tailored to the island’s operational requirements.

Fuel Services Expected to Support Connectivity and Growth

According to the States of Alderney, re-establishing aviation fuel services has been a priority for the island’s government. Cameron said officials are looking forward to reviewing proposals and exploring options for restoring fuel availability in a sustainable and cost-effective manner.

Cameron added:

“This has been a priority for us and I’m delighted we have now reached this stage. We look forward to reviewing the proposals received and exploring how fuel provision can be re-established in a sustainable and cost-effective way,”

The move could improve operational convenience for aircraft operators serving Alderney, reducing the need for fuel-related planning constraints and potentially supporting future growth in both commercial and private aviation activity on the island.

Alderney Airport (ACI) serves as a key transportation link for the island and plays an important role in connecting residents, businesses and visitors with the wider Channel Islands region and beyond.
