Alaska Airlines has placed its largest-ever fleet order. The airline is buying 105 Boeing 737-10s and five more 787 Dreamliners. The monumental deal, which includes options for 35 more 737-10s, will grow the airline’s fleet to over 550 aircraft. Deliveries will run through 2035. The order highlights the airline’s aggressive strategic plan, aimed at establishing itself as the fourth-largest global airline in the United States.

New 737s to Modernise Fleet

This historic investment brings Alaska’s total Boeing 737 MAX orderbook to 174 aircraft. The 737-10 is Boeing’s largest MAX model, and these fuel-efficient planes will replace older 737s. The move ensures Alaska keeps one of the industry’s youngest fleets. Ben Minicucci, CEO of Alaska Air Group, stated that the new aircraft

“Will fuel our expansion to more destinations across the globe.”

The airline retains the flexibility to adjust the model mix if needed, ensuring adaptability for future network needs.

787 Dreamliners Set for New Destinations

The five additional 787 widebody aircraft are central to Alaska’s long-haul growth. Alaska aims to serve at least 12 international destinations from Seattle by 2030. This order brings its 787 fleet to 17, and was announced alongside a new global livery. The aurora-inspired design was unveiled on the first 787-9, and took 1,000 hours to paint.

New routes to London, Rome, and Reykjavik are already available for booking starting in 2026. This news comes shortly after their decision Alaska to fast-track the rollout of SpaceX Starlink Wi-Fi across its entire fleet by 2026.
