Air India, India’s national flag carrier, SkyDrive, a company focused on the development and sales of Electronic Vertical Take-off and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft, and Suzuki have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The long-term goal of the MoU is to explore the possibility of employing eVTOL aircraft for medical air logistics in India.

How eVTOL technology will shape the future of healthcare and mass transit

As India’s major cities struggle with congestion for drivers, this leads to large-scale problems like time-critical challenges which impede medical logistics. Through the combination of SkyDrive’s eVTOL technology, Air India’s operational efficacy as well as Suzuki’s understanding of the Indian market, the three companies can tackle emergency medical logistics and improve India’s medical infrastructure.

The emergence of eVTOL aircraft technology is crucial to the future of Indian society as it offers 21st century solutions to traffic issues across the country. As a result of the rise of eVTOL technology, the aviation industry can help improve the mass transit for ordinary urban commuters in India.

Furthermore, eVTOL aircraft can also be used for medical air logistics during health emergencies, combining aviation and medicine with the purpose of decreasing critical transit times at important moments. As such, the aviation industry is connected to other areas like healthcare and mass transit, especially with regards to evolving technologies.

eVTOL fits with Suzuki’s operational philosophy

eVTOL aircraft developed by SkyDrive and Suzuki in partnership with Air India combines technological collaboration with Suzuki’s philosophy of ‘Sho-Sho-Kei-Tan-Bi’ (Smaller, Fewer, Lighter, Shorter, and Neater)’. As a result, eVTOL technology plays a key role in integrating medical infrastructure in urban areas.

As eVTOL aircraft are small and lightweight it makes them very useful in congested urban areas in India which are characterised by high population density. In the long-term, this policy also supports regional development with an Indian focus.

To this extent, Air India, SkyDrive and Suzuki effectively link mobility and infrastructure with the daily lived reality of commuters in India.

What do you think about the partnership between Air India, SkyDrive and Suzuki to deliver eVTOL aircraft? Please share your thoughts in the comments.
