On Aug. 19, Lufthansa launched its new Starlink-powered Wi-Fi. Flight LH234, travelling from Frankfurt to Rome, was operated using an Airbus A320neo with registration “D-AINM” and is the first aircraft in the airline’s fleet to feature Starlink.

Free of Charge for Miles & More Members

The Wi-Fi offers in-flight internet speeds faster than many connections on the ground, and is free for Miles & More Members and Travel ID users.

Lufthansa hopes to roll out Starlink on up to ten more A320 aircraft at Lufthansa and Lufthansa City Airlines in 2026, with other Lufthansa group airlines expected to follow suit.

Jens Ritter, CEO of Lufthansa Airlines, who activated the Starlink-powered Wi-Fi at an altitude of 10,000 metres, said:

“We are investing more than ever in our guests: in new aircraft, new services, greater choice on board and, of course, state-of-the-art and innovative technology. With Starlink, we will offer the fastest connectivity from take-off to landing, over oceans and deserts, and on short- and long-haul routes. That, too, is premium—and that is what Lufthansa stands for. The introduction of this service marks another milestone in the modernisation of Lufthansa.”

Improving the On-Board Experience

By 2029, the airline aims to equip approximately 850 aircraft across the group’s airlines with the technology as part of its wider investment in both aircraft and product and service innovation.

Installed largely at Lufthansa Technik in Berlin, the Lufthansa Group Wi-Fi is sponsored by Mastercard and will enable travellers to browse the internet and access information about destinations and the Lufthansa Group. Passengers can also use the Wi-Fi to browse a range of eJournals.
