Air Canada and Aeroplan are celebrating 20 years of the Aeroplan Member Donation Program after members donated more than 1.8 billion points to charitable organisations since the launch in 2006. The programme allows Aeroplan members to donate points to charities, which can then redeem them for flights, hotel stays, car rentals and other support services.

Supporting charities through travel

The initiative currently supports more than 100 active charities and works with 11 corporate partners, including long-term partners such as the Air Canada Foundation, Doctors Without Borders and the Stephen Lewis Foundation. Over the past 20 years, the programme has provided assistance to over 1,550 charitable organisations throughout Canada and beyond.

Craig Landry, executive vice president and chief innovation officer at Air Canada and president of Aeroplan, said:

“The scale of this impact speaks to the power of collective giving. As we celebrate two decades of the Aeroplan Member Donation Program, we remain committed to helping charities reach farther and do more.”

Aeroplan matches donations

The programme also includes “Points Matching Weeks”, where Aeroplan matches donated points up to a set amount during charity campaigns. Air Canada said more than 350 million points have been donated during these campaigns since they were introduced in 2010.

Charities participating in the programme can use donated points for travel, accommodation, fundraising prizes and essential goods. Some organisations also use points to help families access emergency medical support and specialist treatment away from home.

Air Canada has already announced several Points Matching Week campaigns planned for the remainder of 2026, including partnerships with charities such as War Child Canada, Rainbow Railroad and Second Harvest.
