The Korean national flag carrier airline, Korean Air, and Korean airline Asiana Airlines collaborated to host the “We Run” charity running event on Apr. 14 in Seoul, South Korea, that brought together upwards of 1500 employees of the two carriers.

About the Event and the Collaboration

The event was sponsored by Boeing, a partner of both of the carriers, and featured two running courses, a 5 km and a 10 km track, for participants to choose from. Amongst participants were various staff from both airlines, such as, flight attendants and administrative staff. The well-known singer and philanthropist, Sean, was also in attendance.

“Today’s run is not just about reaching the finish line, but about moving forward together as ‘One Team’,” said the Vice Chairman of Korean Air, Keehong Woo.

The collaboration between the two airlines hosting the charity event follows a recent announcement of Korean Airlines looking to acquire full ownership of Asiana Airlines, as the flag carrier currently owns 63.9%, and is wanting to buy out the remaining 36.1%.

The Chosen Charitable Cause

The chosen charitable organisation that the airlines decided to raise funds for is a charity that supports the hopes and dreams of children with life-threatening illnesses, Make-A-Wish Korea. Participants in the charity running event collaboratively raised 30 million South Korean Won, and ran a total of 8495 km.

“We congratulate Korean Air on successfully hosting the event, a meaningful reflection of unity and collaboration as the two airlines come together as one,” the Boeing Vice President of Northeast Asia Sales & Marketing, Jeff Edwards, said.

For employees that were not able to participate in the charity event in person, a “Virtual Run” option was provided. Employees were able use mobile applications and record their run and mileage, which was then added to the total mileage covered by all participants.
