Air India has cancelled its flights to and from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) scheduled for Feb. 23, following a winter storm warning on the East Coast of the United States over the weekend.
Advisory warning from Air India
The airlines released a travel advisory stating that heavy snowfall and harsh weather conditions were predicted on Sunday and Monday across the East Coast of the U.S.
The advisory also mentioned that:
“In view of the safety, well-being and convenience of our passengers and crew, all Air India flights to and from New York and Newark have been cancelled on 23 February.”
The Tata-owned airline added that their team will assist passengers and that it can be reached via its 24×7 call centres at +91 1169329333 and +91 1169329999.
There is not yet any specific information regarding refunds or rebooking, but Air India advised passengers to stay updated through their official social media pages.
Winter storm across New York and Newark
The U.S. weather forecasters gave a warning for a high-intensity winter storm that is now forecast to pour 30-61 centimetres of snow across large parts of the Northeastern U.S.
The National Weather Service issued a blizzard warning for New York City, Long Island, Boston, and coastal communities across New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts.
There is also a possibility of floods in parts of New York and New Jersey. Forecasters said that the storm could start as rain before turning into heavy snow.
The authorities have warned that travel could become dangerous, if not impossible, with the higher chances for downed tree limbs and power outages.
