Vietnam Airlines are set to fly from capital Hanoi to Amsterdam solely using A350s from 16th June 2026, being the airline’s first route to the Netherlands. This is the airline’s first direct flight to the European continent.

What are the details?

The service to expected to run three times weekly between Hanoi (HAN) and Amsterdam (AMS) all on Airbus A350-900s. It is the first airline to launch direct routes to the Western European nation from Vietnam.

Vietnam Airlines now gives travellers another option to travel via the two hubs. This comes after many other long-haul airlines have announced their new routes to Schiphol, such as LATAM (Brazil) and fellow Southeast Asian Carrier Thai Airways.

How has new direct route helped passengers save time?

Before, passengers who wanted to visit Amsterdam would usually have to fly via another Asian hub, such as Beijing, Hong Kong or Dubai, with other airlines such as China Eastern, China Southern, Cathay Pacific or Emirates operating the final stretch to Europe. Now passengers have the option to save time and energy by bypassing the layovers and reaching the Dutch capital direct from Northern Vietnam.

Direct flights to other European Destinations are possible via other airlines operating in Vietnam, however it’s expected that this will open doors for other routes to the continent.
