WestJet is set to expand Edmonton’s international reach with a new direct connection to Reykjavik, marking the airline’s first non-stop flights to Iceland from Alberta’s Capital. The route debuts as part of the carrier’s 2026 schedule and reinforces Edmonton’s role within WestJet’s growing Western Canada network.

Strengthening Global Options for Alberta Travellers

The new Edmonton–Reykjavik route will operate once a week beginning June 26, 2026, creating an easy gateway for travellers heading to Iceland’s dramatic landscapes and onward European destinations. WestJet says the addition supports its long-term strategy to build efficient global links from key Canadian hubs, ensuring Edmonton remains well-positioned for international growth.

“Edmonton remains a vital cornerstone of WestJet’s network. The addition of new non-stop service between Edmonton and Iceland reaffirms our commitment to maintaining strong global connections for Albertans,” John Weatherill, WestJet Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer.

Airport partners echoed this sentiment, noting that the service enhances tourism, boosts economic activity, and increases travel opportunities for the Edmonton region. Leaders in Iceland also welcomed the move, highlighting the value of expanded North American access for Icelandic travellers.

“It’s another win for travellers, for tourism, and for Alberta’s economy. We thank WestJet for its ongoing commitment to providing more options and opportunities for guests flying from our region,’ James Jackson, Vice President, Air Service and Business Development, Edmonton International Airport (YEG).

Modern Fleet and Weekly Service Schedule

Flights on the new route will be operated by WestJet’s 737 MAX aircraft, featuring onboard amenities including complimentary WestJet Wi-Fi presented by TELUS. Service will run weekly, with departures from Edmonton to Keflavík International Airport on June 26 and return flights beginning June 27.

The announcement comes as WestJet continues to build its international portfolio following the integration of Sunwing and the ongoing expansion of its fleet and network. With its renewed commitment to accessible global travel, the airline says the route reflects confidence in both the Alberta market and the growing demand for transatlantic connectivity.
