Jetstar, the low-cost subsidiary to Australian airline Qantas, has announced its plans to carry out a milestone expansion at Melbourne’s Avalon Airport, with new routes and increased frequency for existing routes.

Thousands of Seats from Melbourne

The expansion is set to add more than 330,000 low-cost seats per year in and out of the Melbourne airport, helping local customers connect to more destinations, while at the same time attracting tourists to support the region of Victoria’s economic development.

The first ever international route from Melbourne Avalon will be the service to Bali, a favourite for Australian holidaymakers. This marks the airline’s 11th direct service from Austrlia to the Indonesian island following the launch of new services from Sunshine Coast, Newcastle and the Gold Coast. Flights will operate from Melbourne Avalon to Bali (Denpasar) on board the Airbus A321LR, adding over 120,000 sets per year to Australia’s favourite holiday destination. The flight will last just over 6 hours and will provide an additional travel option for customers across Melbourne and the surrounding area. Jetstar will operate five return flights per week between the two destinations, starting from 23 March 2026.

Up to seven return flights between Melbourne Avalon and Adelaide will also commence on 26 March 2026, reconnecting two key cities via a former route and offering up to 109,000 seats a year on the route between the two major cities. Additionally, Jetstar will introduce up to five extra weekly flights to Brisbane, boosting capacity by up to another 107,000 a year between Melbourne Avalon and Queensland’s capital.

Melbourne: Now Better Connected than Ever

Jetstar CEO Stephanie Tully has said that Jetstar is proud to be backing Melbourne Avalon Airport with this significant new investment. In a statment, she said:

”This is a massive step forward for Jetstar at Melbourne Avalon Airport. We’re launching two new routes and adding more seat capacity than ever before. Whether it’s a family holiday in Bali or a weekend away in Adelaide or Brisbane, these services give Victorians even more options to take off more, for less. This investment will see thousands more customers fly through Melbourne’s second airport gateway, supporting the economic growth of Melbourne, Geelong, the Surf Coast and the Bellarine Peninsula. I want to thank the Victorian Government, Melbourne Avalon Airport and Adelaide Airport for their support of low fares travel.”

Brenton Cox, Managing Director of Adelaide Airport, also shared his thanks for Jetstar’s commencement of services to the airport from Melbourne Avalon:

“We are incredibly grateful for Jetstar’s investment in this increased connectivity between Victorian and South Australian communities – supporting strong each way demand for tourism, events, family connections, and business travel.”

Flights are now available to purchase from all Jetstar sale channels, such as the Jetstar website and verified travel agents.
