UK flagship carrier British Airways announced a major deal for its improvement programme today, collaborating with Starlink to provide premium, free in-flight Wi-Fi connections starting next year. The Wi-Fi rollout, upon full completion, will be able to provide high-speed in-flight Wi-Fi connections to all passengers, the airline states.

Big Leap: Free Wi-Fi on Board from Next Year

In this newly signed deal, which is part of British Airways’ £7bn transformation, the airline is working with Starlink to provide high-speed connectivity for passengers on board.

The Wi-Fi rollout will start in 2026, according to the airline; once fully fitted, customers from all cabins will benefit from a high-speed connection that allows them to stream, work or keep in touch even high up in the air.

Sean Doyle, the airline’s chair and chief executive, marks this deal as a major milestone for the airline:

“We’re continuing to focus on transforming our customer experience. Launching Starlink on both our long-haul and short-haul aircraft is game-changing for us and our customers, elevating their experience on board our flights by offering them seamless connectivity from gate-to-gate. Especially on short-haul, this will really differentiate us from our competitors.”

A New BA: the £7Bn Transformation Plan

This Wi-Fi rollout onboard is part of British Airways’ transformation plan that started back in 2024, featuring multiple boosts in the airline’s service, including a recent announcement of 2 new lounge designs at Dubai and Miami. These are just a few of their 1000 initiatives in this grand improvement project.
