Budapest Airport to Offer Increased Seat Capacity and New Destinations For Winter 2025

Budapest Airport will enter Winter 2025 with record seat capacity and passenger numbers, while confirming a host of new destinations, following a boost in tourism and business growth in Hungary.

Budapest Airport Record Seat Capacity and Passenger Total

The airport will offer a record seat capacity of 8.9 million seats, which represents a 12.5% increase compared to the 2024 winter season, which will show a huge advancement of inbound passengers to drive tourism and business growth within the capital.

In analytic insights following tourism growth from Budapest Airport, studies show that growth to long-haul network destinations such as New York, Toronto, Hanoi, Bangkok, and Seoul with a 7% to 37% increase in travel demands from Hungarian passengers.

The long-haul market has seen a drive with Hungarian passengers due to the attractive nature of sightseeing, and destinations in the winter, such as Christmas markets, reflecting Budapest’s vital growing role as a European Gateway.

Growing Drive of Passenger Tourism To And From Budapest, Hungary

Seven destinations will be added to the network from airlines: Jet2, easyJet, Ryanair, Wizz Air, and SAS. Jet2 will see operations from Budapest to Newcastle and the East Midlands, and easyJet will add two more destinations to Nantes, France and a new route to Bordeaux. Ryanair will operate to Marrakech, whilst Wizz Air will begin departures to Tallinn and Turin. SAS will begin operations to Copenhagen in Spring 2026, with regularly scheduled flights.

With a record-setting winter season ahead, fuelled by both inbound and outbound tourism demand, and a major long-haul transatlantic development on the horizon, we are more committed than ever to keep Budapest Airport’s position as the No. 1 airport in the Central and Eastern European region,” shared Markus Klaushofer, CCO, Budapest Airport.
