The British summer holiday season is in full swing, and thousands are headed abroad for vacation. However, despite the love of travel, a surprising number of travellers are still baffled by basic airport and airline rules. A new survey by Vape Globe reveals that up to 90% of Brits are getting key flying facts wrong. To help clear the air, here’s a breakdown of the biggest travel misconceptions— Myth vs. Fact

Myth vs. Fact
Packing & Food
Myth: You can’t bring your food to the airport.
Fact: Yes, you can! As long as it’s not a liquid or gel over 100 ml, bringing snacks from home is perfectly fine. But 67% of Brits wrongly believed it was not allowed.
Liquids in Hand Luggage
Myth: Any amount of liquid is allowed if it fits in your bag.
Fact: All liquids must be under 100 ml and fit inside a single, clear, resealable plastic bag (usually no larger than 1 litre in total). One-third of Brits didn’t know this!
Vapes & E-Cigs
Myth: Vapes go in your hold luggage.
Fact: Wrong! Vapes must go in your carry-on bag, be taken through security, and be stored in a clear bag. 80% of people surveyed got this wrong.
Myth: You can vape on the plane.
Fact: Absolutely not. Vaping on planes is illegal—and can land you in serious trouble. Shockingly, 1 in 5 Millennials think it’s allowed.
Duty-Free Confusion
Myth: You can buy unlimited duty-free cigarettes.
Fact: There are strict personal limits on how much tobacco you can bring through customs—check before you shop. But 50% of Brits believed they could buy as many as they like.
Myth: Lighters can go in hold luggage.
Fact: Nope. Lighters with fuel are prohibited in checked bags. If you must bring one, it goes in your pocket—not your suitcase.
Airport Movement Rules
Myth: You can’t leave the airport during a layover.
Fact: You can leave the airport and come back—as long as you’ve got the proper visa (if required) and return in time for boarding.
Myth: Once you’ve checked in, you can’t leave the airport.
Fact: False! 9 in 10 Brits didn’t realise you can leave and re-enter the airport even after check-in (before going through security, of course).
Regarding the topic Markus Lindblad, from Vape Globe, said
“Travelling abroad is so exciting, but clearly comes with some confusion for holidaymakers. The data clearly shows that Brits are a little in the dark on a number of topics, including packing rules, liquid allowances, and particularly vapes.
“As a nicotine retailer, we often get asked about the various rules and restrictions on vapes, cigarettes and nicotine products in the airport, on the plane, and even once abroad on holiday. It’s a minefield! The best thing to do is pack alternative nicotine products so that you’re not getting into any trouble with airport security.
Therefore, whether it’s about flying for the first time or the fiftieth, it pays to double-check the rules—and separate myth from fact before you hit the skies.
