Air Canada has recently announced revisions to its Aeroplan points system, and how members can earn and gain a higher status in their points program.

More money, more points
Commencing from January 2026, Air Canada has made revisions for loyal customers part of their Aeroplan points scheme, which now means members will earn points based on dollars spent instead of the previous structure, where points were counted based on how many miles the passenger had travelled with Air Canada and partnership travel companies.
Members can earn one point for every dollar spent on eligible Air Canada flights, for example $100 means 100 Aeroplan points. After the airline’s point scheme revision, bonus point offers will be accessible for members, leading to rewards being reached faster.
Air Canada has also announced a bonus offer for members who are part of the Aeroplan Elite Status. They can earn between two and six times more than a regular member.

Air Canada revises Elite Status and how to qualify
With the commencement of a new points system, Air Canada announced that it will be starting a new path of Status Qualifying Credits (SQC) program to help members reach Aeroplan Elite Status.
Credits to achieve Elite status will be available through qualified purchases in company activities and partnership travel, Aeroplan Credit Card spending and general engagement with the Aeroplan scheme. More points and SQC acquired by a member mean more perks will be offered to the qualifying customer, in both retail and travel circumstances.
Vice President for Loyalty and Product at Air Canada, Scott O’Leary, celebrates members who continuously invest in the airline’s point program:
“Our most engaged members do more than just fly with us. Aeroplan has grown into one of the most rewarding and widely used travel loyalty programs.”
Members using the Aeroplan points scheme will get up to four SQC based on fare type for eligible Air Canada carriers, and up to 25,000 SQC when using an Aeroplan Credit Card.

What does this mean for Elite Status Members?
Aeroplan Elite Status members will continue to access benefits and offers, and have the chance to earn more with their elite status.
Milestones and more status packages will be offered to members for every 10,000 SQC they gain.
Beginning from January 2027, Aeroplan premium cardholders will be offered a 10% head start for the SQC program. Members of all statuses have access to over 1,300 global destinations to earn Aeroplan points, with more than 45 airlines, and exclusive access to spending for hotels or even retail shopping at Amazon.
