The Agreement Marks A New Era For Both Airlines

The codeshare agreement was signed at the Paris Air Show and marks the start of a new strategic era for both parties. It will strengthen not only connectivity between Madagascar and Réunion but other regional and international destinations. In return Air Austral receive access to the entire domestic network of Madagascar Airlines. The codeshare flights will be available from June 27th.

This agreement is a step forward for the airlines Phenix 2030 plan, a revitalisation plan to restructure and modernise Madagascar Airlines. The plan includes a full fleet renewal, route restructuring with a focus on domestic routes, enhancing digital systems and strategic partnerships such as the agreement with Air Austral.

Thierry de Bailleul, CEO of Madagascar Airlines is hopeful, he says:

[the partnership is a] concrete way of strengthening the visibility of Madagascar, this unique destination at the heart of a booming regional area, and of better connecting our country to tourist, economic and cultural flows

The airline aim to become a sustainable and competitive airline by 2030 and the agreement with Air Austral moves them one step closer.

Madagascar Tourism’s Much Needed Boost

Madagascar is one of the most biodiverse and culturally rich destinations across the globe, yet tourism has never reached its full potential due to poor air connectivity. The partnership with Air Austral hopes to address this challenge by providing smooth connections through their codeshare. Providing improved transfer options and synchronised fares allows customers to easily access both Réunion and Madagascar, proving a massive boost across the tourism industry for both regions. It will also open new doors for connection across the Indian Ocean Islands.
