The Authorities of Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) announced a new opening schedule for Terminal 2, where its coach hall would first be in service starting September 2025. This is part of the strategic expansion plans to cater to the increasing demand at the existing facilities.

New Facilities Catering to Increasing Demands

The HKIA authorities announced today that the newly expanded Terminal 2 will commence service on 23 September 2025, the first facility being an indoor Coach Hall that has 41 parking spaces for tour buses, cross-boundary coaches, limousines, and resident coaches.

This new facility hopes to lessen the burden on the T1 carparks, especially Carpark 4, which is constantly crowded, especially during peak hours, with loading and offloading.

After the coach hall, new check-in facilities and other related features are scheduled to open in early Q2 of 2026, where the authority promises to work closely with all stakeholders to ensure smooth operations in the new facilities.

Consolidating its Status as a Global and Regional Hub

Following the announcement of a 3-runway system (3RS) in HKIA back in 2022, the airport authorities have since then announced strategic expansion plans to match the increasing traffic at the airport. Home to Cathay Pacific, a globally leading airline, the HKIA will see higher traffic as the airline and the region develop and recover from the post-pandemic shock.

The addition of new facilities and the opening of Terminal 2 mark the start of a new chapter at the HKIA and Hong Kong as a global and regional aviation hub.
