Cathay Pacific has announced they will be adding a new feature to their baggage recovery process. Customers can now use and share Apple’s Share Item Location feature on the Find My network and app with the airline as well as privately and securely share the location of their AirTags with Cathay Pacific’s baggage service teams to locate their missing or delayed baggage quicker.

Faster Baggage Recovery
Cheuk Lo, General Manager Airport Service Delivery said:
“At Cathay Pacific, we’re continuously exploring new ways to further elevate the customer experience. Apple’s Share Item Location feature is a game-changer, empowering both our customers and our airport teams with faster and more efficient baggage recovery. By combining the human touch of our baggage service teams with new technologies like this, we can give customers greater peace of mind in the rare instances when their bag is lost.”
Long term fans of Apple’s Find My features know that putting an AirTag in their suitcase and being able to follow its journey to you offers peace of mind, even when the bag does get lost or delayed as you know exactly where it is!
Cathay Pacific’s use of the ‘Share My Item Location’ feature is going to not only offer an enhanced service for their customers but will also greatly speed up the recovery time, and will be a game-changer to how lost and delayed baggage is found.
This is not the first step that the airline has taken towards providing a more enhanced and enjoyable experience for their customers: Cathay has also promised to provide 100% seatback inflight entertainment (IFE) and high-speed WiFi on its flights from August 2025.

How does it all work?
To share the location of your AirTags or any other Find My network accessories with the Cathay Pacific baggage service team, customers first need to generate a ‘Share Item Location’ link in the Find My app on their Apple devices. This link can then simply be shared via email directly to the baggage service team at their arrival airport. This same link will be added to the customers’ delayed or missing baggage file, and Cathay Pacific’s global airport teams will use the link to locate the bag and start the recovery process.
For privacy and security, there are three ways the location sharing can end. The location sharing will automatically end as soon as the customers has reunited with their baggage, can be stopped by the customer at any point in time, or will automatically expire after seven days from the date the link was generated.
Apple’s Find My Features
The Share Item Location feature is built in on the Apple Find My network and apps. The new feature is available on Apple devices that run on the iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, or macOS 15.2 (or later) operating systems. The Find My network uses Bluetooth technology to detect devices or items and report their approximate location to the owner. The whole process is end-to-end encrypted and anonymous so nobody including Apple or any Find my network accessory manufacturers can see the location of your items.
