What makes Lake Ohrid famous?

Lake Ohrid is situated on the boundary of Albania and North Macedonia. The lake provides a superlative natural environment for numerous endemic species that have existed for two to three million years.

Ohrid town is one of the most historical settlements in Europe. It was built between the seventh and 19th centuries and includes the oldest Slav monastery, St Panteleimon.

The region was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979.

Turkish Airlines’ CEO Bilal Eksi said:

“At Turkish Airlines, we believe that our newly launched flights to/from Ohrid, one of Europe’s oldest settlements, will create new opportunities for both tourism and business. Additionally, it will further enhance cultural exchange with Ohrid, a city that reflects the essence of the Balkans and carries traces of the Ottoman heritage.”
