London City Airport has confirmed that it has witnessed the landing of the largest jet to date on its runway. Helvetic Airways, in conjunction with Swiss International Air Lines, oversaw the landing of this commercial aircraft, which subsequently became the largest to land at the London-based airport.

The Aircraft Used for This Historic Occasion

The Embraer E195-E2 aircraft was used to transport passengers from its original departure destination to London City Airport. Having previously used the E190-E2 model of aircraft, Helvetic Airways broke another record by operating the E195-E2 for its Zurich-London flight.

This therefore marks a second record for the largest aircraft flying to and from London City Airport. Helvetic Airways’ CEO, Tobias Pogorevc, had this to say:

“Due to its steep approach, London City Airport places high demands on both the aircraft and the specially trained cockpit crews. Helvetic Airways has both, and we are proud to be the first airline to bring the larger E195-E2 to London City Airport following its premiere with the Embraer E190-E2 in 2021.  This makes us the only airline in the world to land at London City with three different Embraer aircraft, allowing us to offer our wet-lease customers the greatest possible flexibility.”

A Little About Helvetic Airways

Helvetic Airways is a Swiss-based airline which operates regional routes between airports in Switzerland. A fleet of 15 aircraft is currently in use at Helvetic Airways, which mainly consist of the E190 and E195 aircraft.

The airline owns a hangar located in Zurich, where its head office can also be found. It is also working in partnership with the Horizon Swiss Flight Academy in order to support the training and development of those looking to learn more about aviation.
