Due to huge demand for more flights between India and the United Kingdom, Air India will resume its direct Amritsar – Birmingham flight on September 3, as part of the Air Bubble agreements between the two countries.

Earlier this month, the United Kingdom moved India from the red to the amber list, easing restrictions on people arriving from India. The flight is all set to operate once a week in view of passengers’ demands. The Punjabi diaspora in the UK  can now fly to the holy city without any hassle.

According to the latest information on Air India’s website, Air India flight AI117 will depart Amritsar at 3:00 p.m. every Friday and arrive in Birmingham at 5:20 p.m. the same day.

The return flight AI118 will leave Birmingham at 7:30 p.m. the following day and arrive in Amritsar at 7:35 a.m. on Sunday. On this route, Air India will fly its Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

Route Restarts & Star Alliance

Through Air India’s associated Start Alliance network, passengers from Punjab can go onwards to Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, New York, San Francisco, Chicago, European destinations, and even South America.

Air India began its weekly direct route from Amritsar to London’s Heathrow airport on August 16. The transportation of perishable cargo from the airport to the UK has resumed as a result of this.

According to a tweet from the airport, on August 17, 6270 kg of perishable goods were dispatched on a flight to Heathrow.

The restart of flights has had a phenomenal reaction from both passengers and cargo. According to the Airport Advisory Committee (India), there is an urgent need to export goods from Amritsar Airport.

Due to the second wave of Coronavirus, flights between the two nations were cancelled. The situation in Britain had become significantly worse with the second wave at the time. After that, India was overwhelmed by the second Coronavirus wave. Now that the situation between the two countries is returning to some sort of normality, both countries are resuming their flights.
