Airbus is one of the world’s largest airplane manufacturers in the world! Founded in 1970, they have been one of the giants in aviation with more than 100 aircraft models ever made!
The Airbus A350?
The Airbus A350 is one of the most fuel-efficient airplanes on the market! With its first flight in 2013, it is well-known for its extra-wide fuselage and ability to reduce jet lag. The airplane is so successful that it is bound to have a refresh in the near future. As of January 2021, the number of Airbus A350s built is 407, of which, 405 are in operation. The A350 is a very versatile aircraft, able to fly Ultra long-haul routes of more than 17 hours of flight time! Singapore Airlines utilised the aircraft’s long range, launching the world’s longest route, between Singapore and Newark.

What is the Airbus A350neo?
The Airbus A350neo (if it comes out) will be an upgraded version of the Airbus A350, featuring brand-new engines, most likely from General Electric (GE). It is also highly likely that the Airbus A350neo will boast a higher range and better fuel efficiency, this would allow it to better compete with the Boeing 777x, which is set to enter service in 2023.
Why does it make sense to build an A350neo?
Now, after talking about what the A350neo will likely be, let’s look at why it makes sense for Airbus to make one.
Firstly, the A350neo will likely be coming out to make more ultra-long-haul routes, such as Qantas’ project sunrise, viable without requesting a special airplane model to be built specifically for the route. Secondly, Airbus needs a way to compete against the Boeing 777x, or they risk losing market share to Boeing. Finally, as the industry recovers from the global pandemic and continues to face environmental pressures, airlines will operate with ever smaller margins, increasing the demand for more fuel-efficient aircraft. So, if Airbus can roll out an aircraft that can beat the fuel efficiency of the 777x, they’ll be in a good position to take advantage of this new demand.
