Emirates has partnered with GE Digital Aviation Software and TE FOOD to trial a new mobile app that allows passengers to take a COVID-19 PCR test at a special discounted rate.

The airline’s customers will be offered special rates for COVID-19 PCR tests via the TrustOne app. The tests are done by Eurofins at the company’s global laboratory facilities. The app also helps passengers find lab locations, book appointments and access test results with minimal fuss.

According to Emirates, the app’s first trial phase has already started in the UAE, France, the UK, Spain and the Netherlands.

What does the test cost?

When it comes to the cost of the tests, Emirates, which is also one of the first airlines in the world to trial IATA Travel Pass, says customers travelling from the United Arab Emirates will pay AED130 if they book their test at the authorised labs via the app. Customers travelling from other countries can expect to pay between EUR70 and EUR90, depending on where they are travelling from.

For now, customers will still need to print their PCR certificates as per the current requirements of their destination but Emirates says that the second phase of the trial will allow customers use the app to validate their test results when checking in at the airport. The TrustOne app is available on iOS or Android devices.

Emirates has also recently introduced a smart contactless journey with an integrated biometric path and other services including self-check-in and bag drop kiosks at Dubai International airport.

Adel Al Redha, Emirates’ Chief Operating Officer, said: “We are constantly looking for solutions to improve our customer experience. Travel requirements today are dynamic, and even more than ever, our goal is to give our customers confidence and enable them to travel safely.”

Have you experienced a contactless journey and if so, did it go smoothly? Let us know in the comments below!
