The Incident

United Airlines flight UA1 is a routine flight between San Francisco International Airport (SFO) in the U.S. and Singapore’s Changi Airport (SIN). The flight on which the incident occurred left San Francisco at 23:35 local time on the 27th of March. The aircraft is believed to have experienced turbulence while flying over the Philippines. Of the injured passengers, one was seriously injured and four more suffered minor injuries. Despite this, the aircraft landed on time in Singapore at 06:56 local time on the 28th of March. According to data from Planespotters.net, the aircraft on which the incident occurred was a Boeing 787-9, which was delivered to the airline in September 2015. United Airlines currently has 44 of these aircraft in its fleet, all in active service. Boeing produced its final 787 aircraft in March 2021 for All Nippon Airways.

Investigation Taking Place

The U.S.-based National Transport Safety Board (NTSB) and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) have confirmed that a joint investigation is taking place into the incident. After aircraft N27958’s arrival in Singapore on the 28th of March, data from AirNav Radar shows that it was grounded. After returning to commercial service on the 5th of April, it performed the return flight, United Airlines flight UA2, back to San Francisco and landed safely in the U.S. at 09:12 local time.
