On 4 July 2025, Malaysia Aviation Group announced a new order of 20 Airbus A330neo widebody aircraft, which doubles their current fleet size of A330neo aircraft.

Doubling Fleet Size in Support of Strategic Expansion

According to Airbus, MAG first ordered the A330neo in 2022 to support their fleet renewal, and as expansion continues, they are now placing a new order to double the aircraft numbers. Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, Group Managing Director of Malaysia Aviation Group, says this model would support the group’s strategic expansion of both regional and long-haul flights:

“With its enhanced fuel efficiency and flexibility across both regional and long-haul routes, the aircraft is a strong fit for our evolving market needs. It also allows us to offer a product that aligns with our premium positioning – streamlined, modern, and designed around passenger comfort and expectations. This additional order reinforces our long-term vision of building a future-ready fleet that supports sustainable growth, delivers consistent value to our passengers, and strengthens our competitiveness in key markets.”

So far, 4 aircraft have been delivered and used to cover routes to Melbourne, Auckland, and Bali Island. 6 more are scheduled to be delivered this year, and the rest are to arrive before the end of 2028.

More about the Airbus A330neo

The Airbus A330neo, powered by the latest generation Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, is capable of flying 13,300 km non-stop and carries around 220 to 300 passengers onboard. With a brand-new cabin design, the aircraft also comes with individual cubicle seats for business class and the latest in-flight entertainment systems, securing high service standards onboard MAG flights.

Airbus has delivered 63 aircraft in June 2025 and 306 so far in the whole year, showing the popularity of its models in fleet renewal for commercial aviation.
