Vueling, a budget airline from Barcelona owned by International Airlines Group (IAG), is moving away from an all Airbus fleet structure as the group allocates 50 Boeing 737 MAX to the carrier, and is boosting fleet efficiency with increased capacity and flying range. This marks the start of Vueling’s operation with the Boeing order as they receive the new aircraft starting late 2026.

New Fleet Structure
According to ch-aviation, Vueling’s current fleet includes 141 aircraft, all Airbus aircraft with an average age of around 10 years. As the International Airlines Group (IAG) allocates all 50 Boeing aircraft orders to Vueling, the airline will operate with a mixed fleet for the first time. The original order includes 25 Boeing 737 MAX 8200 aircraft and 25 larger Boeing 737 MAX 10 aircraft.
The Boeing order was placed initially in 2022, and the delivery is expected to start in late 2026.

Higher Fleet Efficiency
The new aircraft will boost Vueling’s fleet efficiency, with higher passenger capacity and a longer flying distance. This will be a strong support for the airline as they launch new routes to further destinations.
Boeing and Airbus have always been the world’s leading aircraft manufacturers, delivering new aircraft every year. It is still unclear whether IAG will exercise their option to purchase 100 more aircraft from Boeing for this order, which will completely change Vueling’s fleet structure.
