Virgin Atlantic Returns to Canada

Airline Virgin Atlantic have expanded their North American network with the addition of a new London – Toronto route. Having launched its first flight on March 30, the airline now offers daily flights between the two major cities.

The route, operating from London Heathrow to Toronto Pearson International Airport, is set to transport an estimated 165,000 passengers each year. Operating on a Boeing 787-9, these flights also contain up to 20 tonnes of cargo space for technology goods and e-commerce.

The new route will mark the airline’s first Canadian route for over a decade, having last flown to Toronto in 2001 and Vancouver between 2012 – 2014.

Sir Richard Branson, President of Virgin Atlantic and Founder of Virgin Group, celebrated the airline’s return to Canada:

“Canada, we’ve missed you! It’s been more than a decade, but we’re back and here to do it properly. I’m delighted to see Virgin Atlantic’s return to Toronto, a city with so much spirit and energy. With our incredible crew, exceptional service, and a strong network of partners, we can’t wait to welcome customers onboard.”

London – Toronto: A Gateway to New Connections

In addition to the direct service between London Heathrow and Toronto Pearson, the new route will facilitate a variety of further connections.

The route allows passengers convenient single-stop connections via London Heathrow to a variety of destinations in India. Passengers are now able to transfer to major Indian cities such as Mumbai and Delhi.

Passengers may also experience convenient connections to destinations including Johannesburg, Beirut, Tel Aviv and Lagos thanks to an expansion of interline partnerships and codeshare agreements.

The airline have also expanded their codeshare with Canadian airline WestJet. Passengers wishing to explore Canada beyond Toronto are now able to transfer to 13 further Canadian destinations, including Vancouver, Winnipeg and Ottawa.

Chief Commercial Officer of Virgin Atlantic, Juha Jarvinen, expressed the airline’s excitement for the connections offered by Toronto:

“We’re absolutely thrilled to be back in Canada. We’ve long wanted to return – and this time, we’re here to stay. Toronto is not only a thriving financial hub, but also a gateway to one of the most vibrant and diverse countries in the world. With our strong transatlantic focus, expanded connectivity to India, and exciting new partnership with WestJet, the timing couldn’t be better.”
