United Airlines is looking into a viral video, which was published the week of July 13, that shows an employee threatening to call Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on a Mexican-American man at San Francisco International Airport (SFO).

The scene erupted into chaos at San Francisco International Airport (SFO) when passenger San Ramon grew upset after an employee threatened to call ICE because the staff made an error on his daughter’s ticket for a flight to Canada.

Breakdown of the situation

The man waited three hours, which led him to pull out his phone and video the staff member. He continued to say:

“I’m asking for your name so I can report you.”

A statement made by San Ramon in the video has attracted a wide range of attention. The United Airlines member responded by pulling out her own phone and recording a video as well.

The further escalation

The woman said she would call ICE on him, stating he doesn’t act like a citizen. The statement only made Ramon angrier.

“Call ICE on me, lady…United Airlines has a racist customer service lady!”

He then proceeded to call her lazy.

She responded by telling him to “get out of her face”.

Another staff member can be seen sighing and rolling her eyes in the background of the video.

The airline stated:

“We’re looking into the interaction in this video, but we don’t have anything additional to share at the time.”

San Ramon had also expressed concern about possibly being detained by ICE upon returning to the United States from Montreal, even though he is a United States citizen. Nothing reportedly happened when he returned.

Do you think the United Staff member was wrong for her behaviour? Let us know in the comments below!
