Flying Economy Class on the world’s five best global airlines for 2026 is an experience in itself. Passengers can enjoy broad seats, extra legroom and world-leading food and hospitality. This creates a better atmosphere, particularly on long-haul flights in Economy Class. Flying Economy Class on these global airlines is comfortable.

Flying in Economy Class

Traditionally, flying in the back of an airplane was associated with poor seating and the struggle to feel comfortable. However, this has changed dramatically in recent years, especially among some of the world’s top airlines for Economy Class.

With the 2026 Skytrax World Airline Awards announced, Singapore Airlines has been awarded the best global Economy Class. It is followed by Cathay Pacific, Qatar Airways, EVA Air and ANA All Nippon Airways.

The basis for these awards is Skytrax’s yearly passenger satisfaction survey. This is based on passenger ratings for airlines according to airport and onboard experience.

According to Skytrax, the world’s best Economy Class airlines are judged on their performance in entertainment, food and drink, seating, services, and Wi-Fi. This provides an extensive list of criteria against which excellence is assessed.

1. Singapore Airlines

Singapore Airlines is known for its wide seats in Economy Class. On the Boeing 777-300ERs, Economy Class follows a 3-3-3 configuration, which is highly spacious.

Singapore Airlines achieved first place for catering with high-quality food and drink. In-flight entertainment was highly commended. The Economy Class also features an adjustable headrest for added comfort on long flights.

2. Cathay Pacific

Cathay Pacific ranks second. On newer aircraft, Cathay Pacific features 4K screens, Bluetooth audio and in-flight entertainment to keep passengers engaged.

Cathay Pacific also ranked fourth for economy seats, third for economy catering and third for in-flight entertainment. Skytrax named Cathay Pacific the World’s Best Cabin Crew in 2026.

Even more mundane details have been taken care of, like lavatory upkeep, something which is essential on long-haul flights. This makes the travel experience seamless.

3. Qatar Airways

Qatar Airways ranked third overall. Qatar Airways focuses on a strong in-flight entertainment offering and connectivity.

Qatar Airways has rolled out Starlink Wi-Fi on the widebody fleet, including on Airbus A350s, Boeing 777s,  and Boeing 787s. This fundamentally changes how a long flight feels and makes it more bearable.

Passengers can stay connected to messaging, work or streaming services with Starlink Wi-Fi, thus strengthening the in-flight experience.

4. EVA Air

Placing fourth overall, EVA Air is known for its comfortable seats. The Taiwanese carrier employs adjustable headrests and ergonomic seat designs which allow for more back support. On some aircraft, the cushioning and headrests reduce pressure on the body during long flights.

Another reason why EVA Air placed fourth overall is due to its food and drink offering. In terms of catering, the airline ranks second only to Singapore Airlines for its Economy Class catering.

5. ANA All Nippon Airways

ANA All Nippon Airways ranks highly for its legroom. Most of the airline’s Boeing 787-9 configurations feature 34 inches of seat pitch, which far exceeds the industry standard for long-haul flights. This gives passengers more room to move on long flights and greater comfort, making long-haul flights more relaxing.

However, ANA All Nippon Airways’ Economy Class experience varies according to the aircraft model. As some Boeing 787-8 configurations offer less pitch, extra legroom is not always guaranteed.

Overall, all of the world’s top five airlines have distinguished themselves to meet passenger requirements. Whether it be through catering, connectivity, headrests, extra legroom, in-flight entertainment or even lavatory access, each airline understands the specifics of  long-haul Economy Class travel. This creates a comfortable atmosphere for passengers and reinforces the criteria against which Skytrax awards excellence in aviation.
