Airbus has completed the EASA-type certification to launch the A321XLR, an upgraded version A321, and is set to enter service soon. This achievement showcases the hard work of the Airbus team over the last six years.
Let’s discover the A321XLR
The A321XLR is an advanced version of the A321, which Airbus has worked on to extend the range of the single-aisle, twin-engine plane. This “versatile aircraft” can fly up to 8.700 kilometers, making it the first version to fly for such a distance, increasing the aircraft’s viability for the middle of the market (MoM) segment. It can accommodate up to 244 passengers, is equipped with more fuel-efficient engines, and offers a 30% reduction in fuel consumption.
The newly certified aircraft has attracted significant attention, it has already registered more than 500 orders from 26 airlines. This makes it suitable for both medium-haul and long-haul routes.
Speaking to members of the media, Christian Scherer, CEO of the Commercial Aircraft business of Airbus said:
“Here comes the A321XLR, a differentiated product that brings new value to the market, expanding the possibilities for our airline customers and passengers. ”
Airbus: A culmination of efforts
Airbus has faced multiple challenges over the last few years, such as facing a range gap after design safeguards last year. However, it has proved that it is indeed the leading global aerospace, with its adaptable design and operational efficiency, many applaud Airbus for this aircraft that has no concurrence in the present.
The engineers and test pilots have dedicated a lot of time and effort to ensure the high quality of the project which meets the standards of airworthiness and performance. For instance, they conducted around 1450 flight test hours.
A321XLR certification marks a significant milestone for Airbus, offering airlines a versatile and cost-effective solution for all different routes with a secure and comfortable process. This success not only reflects Airbus’s commitment to innovation but also sets a new standard in the aviation industry. Kudos to the entire team for their hard work and vision.
